Holiday season is upon us! So that means for me- 3 SEPERATE DAYS OF COOKIE MAKING!
But I do love it- spending time with family I don't see regularly is something I will never take for granted. We spend the day baking, laughing, and hearing stories about family members that we may have never heard before, or rehashing stories told often.
"What the Christ!" is a "famous" quote from my GMom when my cousin was making a VINE (yes, you read that correctly, Vine), and she was getting pissed off. We laugh about that everytime it's brought up. It is hard this time of year because some people aren't around anymore, but its nice to have those memories to talk about. I miss her SO much, I think about her almost every day.
So for this ROTM, we are making GMom's Crescent Cookies. They are super easy to make and my favorite!
As seen below the ingredients for one batch are as follows:
1/2 pound of butter (2 sticks)
2 cups unbleached flour
2 cups chopped pecans
5 tsp of sugar
2 tsp of vanilla
1 tbsp of water
1/2 tsp salt
Powdered Sugar
(the cookies themselves aren't THAT sweet, it's the powdered sugar on the outside that makes sweetens them up more.)
Directions are as follows:
*preheat oven to 325° F;
Cream butter (I recommend a hand mixer or a regular mixer if you have it)
Add sugar, vanilla and water
Sift flour and salt together and stir into mixture
Add pecans and mix thoroughly
Using portions of a small walnut (In other terms, I'd say slightly smaller than a golf ball about), roll into crescent shaped cookies (see picture below)
Bake at 325° F for about 20 minutes
While warm, roll in powdered sugar; it wont stick if they aren't warm so make sure not to wait too long!
These are fabulous paired with coffee; I also like my cookies the way Santa Claus does too- with milk.
This is the shape youre going for!
Baking these help me feel closer to GMom, and even though she isn't able to enjoy the cookies with us, I know she is happy and proud that we made them, and will continue to for years to come! I hope you get to enjoy them as much as I do.
The finished product should look a little something like this :)
Love and miss you GMom.
Love,
